High schools from the New Orleans area have sent many outstanding athletes around the country to play at the collegiate level. The Allstate Sugar Bowl will highlight the outstanding achievements of athletes from the Crescent City throughout the spring of 2026 with its New Orleans Athlete Spotlights, presented by LCMC Health.

Willie Anderson, Carver/Tougaloo Men's Basketball
A 6-3 senior guard, Willie Anderson is the second-leading scorer for Tougaloo with 14.1 points per game. He also averages 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Bulldogs who are 14-8 on the season including 10-2 in HBCU Athletic Conference action – tops in the West Division. This past Saturday, Anderson scored a career-best 27 points, on 9-of-13 shooting, to lead Tougaloo to a 94-58 win over Paul Quinn. He also had 23 points in a win over Dillard (1/8) and 20 in a win over Wiley (1/17). Last year, Anderson averaged 10.6 points per game for the Bulldogs. The graduate of George Washington Carver began his collegiate career at Alcorn State and is now a health and recreation major at Tougaloo. He was a key part of Carver's powerhouse teams from 2020-21 and 2021-22. He earned honorable mention all-state after helping the Rams to the LHSAA Class 4A championship as a senior.
