Mission
The mission of the Sugar Bowl® is to seek out, promote, finance, sponsor, schedule, conduct, and operate an annual calendar of local, state, national and international amateur and collegiate sporting events in the Greater New Orleans area and the State of Louisiana for the purpose of generating tourism.
On January 1, 2024, the Organization will host the 90th annual Sugar Bowl® Classic in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Membership and Staff
There are over 110 individuals comprising the current membership of the Sugar Bowl® Committee. These members represent the Organization on various working committees designed to carry out the Sugar Bowl’s mission. The Organization’s day-to-day operations are conducted in its office located in the Caesars Superdome, and are handled by a full-time staff of 10 employees.
Income Tax Status
The Organization is qualified as a nonprofit organization and is exempt from federal and state income taxes under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).
Finances
The Organization generates revenue primarily from ticket sales to its events, sponsor payments and licensing fees.
The primary expenses of the Organization are the costs incurred to conduct the annual Sugar Bowl® Classic, as well as payments to the participating schools routed through their respective conferences via the College Football Playoff. In addition to these expenses, the Organization sponsors more than 50 amateur sporting events around the Greater New Orleans area and the State of Louisiana. These include events in baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, powerlifting, regatta/sailing, road racing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, volleyball and wrestling. The Sugar Bowl also sponsors the Manning Award, the New Orleans Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame and a free annual youth clinic for over 400 children.
