
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Classic hosted by USTA Louisiana at New Orleans City Park Tennis Center will return on Saturday, November 9th through Monday, November 11th. The tournament will be played at five locations (City Park Tennis Center, Atkinson Stern, Audubon Tennis Center, UNO Tennis Center, and Xavier Tennis Center), matches will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at all locations. The finals will take place at City Park Tennis Center on Monday, November 11th starting at 9:30 a.m. The tournament is free and open to the public at all locations.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Classic is a USTA National Tournament for female and male players from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico in the 12&Under, 14&Under, 16&Under, and 18&Under age divisions. Over 900 youth players registered to be play in the event with only 256 being selected for the main draw in singles – the top 32 in each of the eight divisions. Those selected for the singles draws have the opportunity to play doubles with a partner from the draw; if they opt out, an alternate replaces for doubles bringing the total number of players to approximately 300.

Local athletes competing in the event – which is the highest level of junior competition in Louisiana – include:
- Parker Bryan of Baton Rouge – last year’s champion in the Boys 12&Under, competing in 14&Under
- Mikayla Person of Baton Rouge – competing in Girls 14&Under
- My-Anh Holmes of New Orleans – competing in Girls 18&Under
The Sugar Bowl sponsored a junior tennis tournament from 1948-1993. It evolved into a collegiate and international tourney from 1994 to 2001.
LHSAA Class 5A Region III Tennis Tournament
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has also sponsored the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A Region IV Tennis Tournament for the past 11 years at the City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center. The event crowns the top boys’ and girls’ tennis teams and individuals from the Bayou region of Louisiana and the South-shore Metro New Orleans area. Each quarterfinalist in singles and doubles qualifies for the LHSAA State Championships.
Brother Martin High School and Mount Carmel Academy successfully defended their boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, at the 2019 event.
Top-seeded Iris Westmoreland, from Mount Carmel, won the girls’ singles title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mary-Parker Whisnant from Dominican. Mount Carmel had the top two-seeded teams in the girls’ doubles bracket and that held to form in the tournament as the duo of Caroline Arnold and Niki Bountovinas topped teammates Sydney Green and Casey Pappas, 6-3, 6-0, in the title match. Arnold and Bountovinas also won the regional doubles title last year.
In boys’ singles action, Brother Martin’s Matthew Armbruster defeated defending champion Jojo Sandoz from Jesuit, 6-1, 6-3. In doubles action, the Crusaders also came out on top as the team of Hunter Kael and Jack Robinson posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Nick Crockens and James Henican from Jesuit. Kael and Robinson had been the regional runners-up in 2018.
World Junior Tennis Classic
The Sugar Bowl’s World Junior Tennis Classic was held from 1994 to 2001. The event showcased the top American and international junior tennis players. The Classic was an International Tennis Federation sanctioned event. The eight-day event was played in the beginning of September and held indoors at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside’s Rivercenter Racquet and Health Club courts.
