NEW ORLEANS (November 13, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Classic hosted by USTA Louisiana at New Orleans City Park Tennis Center returned this past weekend. The tournament will be played at five locations (City Park Tennis Center, Atkinson Stern, Audubon Tennis Center, UNO Tennis Center, and Xavier Tennis Center).
 
The Sugar Bowl has a long history with the sport of tennis. It sponsored a junior tennis tournament from 1948-1993. It evolved into a collegiate and international tourney from 1994 to 2001. The junior tennis tournament debuted in 2016 and was contested for four years before COVID forced its cancellation in 2020 and 2021. Damages to the City Park Tennis Center from Hurricane Ida cancelled last year's event.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Classic was a USTA National Tournament for female and male players from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico in the 12&Under, 14&Under, 16&Under, and 18&Under age divisions. Over 900 youth players registered to be play in the event with only 256 being selected for the main draw in singles – the top 32 in each of the eight divisions. Those selected for the singles draws have the opportunity to play doubles with a partner from the draw; if they opt out, an alternate replaces for doubles bringing the total number of players to approximately 300.
 
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 103 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
