Georgia Tech’s Haynes King Selected as Manning Award Quarterback of the Week

Senior Leads Yellow Jackets to Upset of No. 12 Clemson

Haynes KingNEW ORLEANS (September 17, 2025) – Fans have selected Georgia Tech's Haynes King as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earned the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's online fan voting contest.

King had a standout performance, accounting for 314 total yards, in the Yellow Jackets' 24-21 win over longtime rival Clemson. He completed 20-of-28 passes for 211 yards through the air and added a career-high 25 carries for 103 yards and a score. The Longview, Texas, native was at his best in the fourth quarter opening it with a 1-yard TD run to give the Yellow Jackets a 21-14 lead. After the Tigers evened the score, King accounted for 36 of Tech's 38 yards on the final possession to lead them into field goal range for Aidan Birr's game-winning 55-yarder.

In addition to being recognized as a Manning Star, the senior was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week for his performance. He is one of only three players in the country with two 100-yard passing/100-yard rushing games this season. Georgia Tech looks to extend its home win streak at Bobby Dodd Stadium to eight as they host Temple on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT on The CW Network.

The other Manning Award Stars of the Week were Carson Beck (Miami), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Marcel Reed (Texas A&M), Ta'Quan Roberson (Buffalo), Ty Simpson (Alabama), and Gunner Stockton (Georgia).

In its first 21 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 15 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
