Percy Gibson - November 1975 Athlete of the Month

Gibson, the leader of No. 1 ranked St. Augustine High School's vaunted defense, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for November of 1975. Gibson led the Purple Knights to three state playoff victories during November as he led the team in tackles in wins over Carver, West Jefferson, and South Lafourche.
Against West Jefferson, Gibson intercepted a pass and stepped in for a Purple Knight touchdown that gave St. Aug a 14-6 win. IN the Carver game, Gibson recovered a fumble and led in tackles. Against South Lafourche, he was the intimidating defensive figure from the nose guard position.
The other nominee for the November award was Mark Olivari of Tulane who kicked field goals of 52 and 54 yards against Air Froce, the latter a new Tulane record.
