John Williams - January 1984 Athlete of the Month

Williams, the star big man for the Tulane basketball team, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for January of 1984. Williams averaged 17.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while leading the Green Wave to a 6-3 record during the month. The 6-9 junior from Sorrento had 24 points against Southern Miss and 16 rebounds against Memphis State during the month.
Runner-up in a close contest was 6-4 Perry McDonald of Carver High who paced the Rams to nine straight wins and a state playoff berth during January.
