David Gatch - May 1983 Athlete of the Month
Track & Field, John Curtis Christian School

Gatch, a standout pole vaulter for John Curtis, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for May of 1983. Gatch cleared a height of 16 feet, fives inches and won the high hurdles in 14.7 seconds at the state track meet in Monrue in June. He also vaulted 16-7 at a meet in Orlando.

Other nominees included pitcher Joey Zimmerman of Shaw High School, UNO third baseman Scott Raziano, and John Ehret track star Zina Age.
