Marvin Christian - October 1978 Athlete of the Month
Football, Tulane University

Christian, a standout running back for the Tulane football team, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for October of 1978. Christian is headed to a record-setting year and career and drew praise for his performance against Boston College when he ran for 176 yards on 30 carries and caught three passes in a 9-3 Green Wave win. He was also cited for his strong performances against Texas Christain and Memphis State. He rushed for 85 yards in both games and caught a total of six passes in the two contests. 

Runner-up for the award was Clark High School running back Sidney Livious, who rushed for 232 yards against Kennedy and 195 yards against Abramson.
