Simon, a standout nose guard for the Tulane football team, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for November of 1980. The Lutcher native was cited for his performance in the Green Wave's 24-7 loss to LSU on Nov. 22. Despite the loss, Simon collected 21 tackles and recovered three fumbles on the muddy Tiger Stadium field.
