Joey Matranga - July 1975 Athlete of the Month

Matranga, a standout pitcher for the Shamrock Construction American Legion baseball team, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for July of 1975. Matranga won five games without a loss during the month while pitching in the tough Second District American Legion league. He pitched 45 innings, registered 36 strike outs, and compiled a 1.71 ERA during July. Considered to be one of the top prospects in the area, Matranga was a senior at Ecole Classique this past year. He is now at UNO on a baseball scholarship.
