Susan Boyd - April 1975 Athlete of the Month
Swimming, Green Wave Swim Club
Boys, a 17-year-old senior at Dominican who swims for the Green Wave Swim Club, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for April of 1975. At the National AAU Short Course Swimming Championships in Cincinnati (4/9-12), Boyd posted a 2:07.52 in the 200-yard backstroke; a 2:08.88 in the 200-yard individual medley; a 59.76 in in the 100-yard backstroke; and a 1:53.82 in the 200-yard freestyle; swam the first leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team in 0:53.75 and the final leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.94.
A week later in the Green Wave Invitational at Monk Simons Pool at Tulane, Boyd won six individual events and was on a winning relay team. She set four individual records in the process.
She won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.89), the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.94), the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.12), the 400-yard freestyle (3:39.59), the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.04), and the 200-yard backstroke (2:11).
Other nominees for the monthly award were Tulane pitcher Steve Mura and Tulane shortstop Barry Butera.
