Thomatis, a basketball star for Ursuline Academy, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for February of 1998. Thomatis averaged 30 points per game in helping the Lions reach the LHSAA Sweet 16 Tournament Semifinals. She scored 54 points in Ursuline's triple-overtime victory against O.P. Walker in the quarterfinals.
