Neil Reed - January 1993 Athlete of the Month

Reed, a junior guard for the East Jefferson basketball team, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for January of 1993. Reed led the Warriors to a perfect 9-0 record in January as they rose to the No. 1 spot in the Louisiana Sportswriters Class 5A poll statewide. East Jefferson defeated then-No. 1 John Ehret, 63-57, in January as Reed scored a season-high 35 points. He also scored 28 points in an upset of 2A state champion Newman. Reed averaged 26 points and nine rebounds and shot 58 percent from the field ad 87 percent from the line. East Jefferson was 25-3 at the end of January.
