Johnson, a standout for the UNO basketball team, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for December of 1990. In December, he averaged a team-high 16.4 points and 14.1 rebounds as the Privateers went 7-0 for the month. Johnson also shot 67 percent from the field, blocked 19 shots and had 11 steals.
