Howard, a senior running back for the John Curtis football team, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for December of 1993. Howard gained 300 yards on 35 carries during the state playoffs, including 142 yards on 20 carries as the Patriots beat Wossman, 42-14, to win the Class 4A state football championship.
