NEW ORLEANS (May 26, 2024) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored the Super 60 AAU Basketball Tournament for the 11th year over Memorial Day weekend in New Orleans. The event featured 78 boys teams, including many of the top-rated AAU teams in the country, from third-grade to 11th-grade. Teams played multiple games throughout the two-day event. The tournament featured young athletes from nine different states and drew hundreds of visitors to the city.

The states represented in this year’s Super 60 tournament were Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.

Third Grade (6 teams): Elfrid Payton Elite (La.) def. Southern Premier (La.), 39-21

Eleventh Grade (6 teams): DB Elite (La.) def. SA Premier (Texas): 40-34

The Super 60 tourney has welcomed a handful of celebrity coaches including former NBA standout Kendrick Perkins, former NBA star and current University of Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway, and former NBA player and playground legend Rafer “Skip To My Lou” Alston have coached teams, as did former UNO star Ervin Johnson (a 2018 inductee into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame) and former New Orleans Pelican Darius Miller. Former NBA stars Juwan Howard, Zach Randolph, and the legendary Julius “Dr. J” Erving have attended as fans.
The event has also featured many star players in its history, including current NBA players Marvin Bagley (Washington Wizards), Jared Butler (Washington Wizards), Wendell Carter (Orlando Magic), Collin Sexton (Utah Jazz), Jalen Suggs (Orlando Magic), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Jared Vanderbilt (Los Angeles Lakers), P.J. Washington (Dallas Mavericks), Robert Williams (Portland Trail Blazers) and Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks).
The
Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 29 national champions, 107 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 90-year history. The 91st Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Quarterfinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2025. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.5 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
