The iconic silver Sugar Bowl cup that served as the original Sugar Bowl Classic trophy is the most popular and longest standing image related to the game so it is only fitting that it has appeared on more Sugar Bowl program covers than any other item with 43 out of 89 covers. Forty-five times the Sugar Bowl program cover has been a cartoon or drawing, and it wasn’t until the 1980s that a photo of an actual person made an appearance. Since then, only seven program covers have included photos of actual athletes. The site of the Sugar Bowl, the Caesars Superdome, appears 10 times, while the original home of the Classic, Tulane Stadium, has nine program covers. A football has graced the Sugar Bowl program cover 29 times, but since the Sugar Bowl is about more than just football, there have been nine instances when another sport has made an appearance on a game program cover.
