Caswell Ellis Henican was a three-sport letterman at Tulane, playing basketball, football and baseball. He excelled most in basketball, earning three letters and setting multiple long-standing records.
In 1923-24, he won the Porter Cup, presented by the Tulane Athletic Council to Tulane’s best all-around athlete. He was named All-Southern Conference in basketball for the 1924-25 season after leading the Green Wave to the conference finals in Atlanta. In the first round of the tourney, Henican scored 18 points in a 37-20 win over Washington & Lee. He added another 18 points in a 41-24 second round win over N.C. State. In the semifinals, Henican scored 17 in a 44-23 blowout of Ole Miss. However, North Carolina held Henican to just 10 points in the championship game as the Tar Heels won, 30-28.
Born February 10, 1905, Henican was inducted into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984. He died on February 23, 1997 at the age of 92.
