NEW ORLEANS (February 28, 2016) – The University of New Orleans swept its “Leadoff on the Lakefront” three-game series with Valparaiso. The first series of the season for the Privateers was sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl for the second straight year.

UNO opened the weekend with a 9-0 shutout of the Crusaders as Shawn Semple tossed 6.1 shutout innings, Kyle Bracey connected for a pair of hits and three RBI and Chaz Boyer belted a two-run homer.
The Saturday match-up was more of a battle for the Privateers, but a three-run third keyed by Boyer’s two-run double gave UNO enough to hold on for the 5-3 victory.
UNO completed the sweep with a 9-8 Sunday victory with Daniel Martinez shutting the door on the Crusaders for his fourth save of the season. Preston Marsh collected three hits and drove in four runs, including a key two-run double in the fourth inning.
