NEW ORLEANS (July 9, 2026) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl will serve as a College Football Playoff (CFP) Quarterfinal and Semifinal host during the 2028-31 playoff cycle, the College Football Playoff announced Thursday.
The CFP announced that the Sugar Bowl Committee will stage additional quarterfinal matchups on Jan. 1, 2029, and Jan. 1, 2032. The Sugar Bowl will also host semifinal games on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2030, and Friday, Jan. 10, 2031.
The upcoming season will see the Sugar Bowl state a CFP Semifinal on Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, hosting for the fourth time since 2014.
The announced dates are:
2028-29 Season – 2029 CFP Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Monday, Jan. 1, 2029.
2029-30 Season – 2030 CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2030.
2030-31 Season – 2031 CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Friday, Jan. 10, 2031.
2031-32 Season – 2031 CFP Quarterfinal at Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 1 2032.
During the 2027-28 season, the Sugar Bowl will be at the center of the college football landscape by hosting two CFP games. The CFP Quarterfinal will be played on Friday, Dec. 31, 2027, followed by the CFP National Championship on Jan. 24, 2028.
Tickets for the Allstate Sugar Bowl are available through the organization's annual ticket program. Annual ticket holders receive the same seats each year, along with opportunities to upgrade their locations. Fans interested in becoming annual ticket holders can complete an annual ticket interest form to be contacted by a representative.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of college football's premier postseason events, having hosted 29 national champions, 114 College Football Hall of Fame players, 55 College Football Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners during its 92-year history. The 92nd Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which served as a College Football Playoff Quarterfinal, featured Ole Miss defeating SEC rival Georgia before a sellout crowd at the Caesars Superdome on Jan. 1, 2026.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) is the event that crowns the national champion of major college football.
