Allstate Sugar Bowl Announces Manning Award Futures for Week Nine

Four Nola Area QBs Spotlighted by the Sugar Bowl

Futures, 11/4/25NEW ORLEANS (November 4, 2025) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend.
 
The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
 
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 122 quarterbacks from 55 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
 
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/4/25:
 
John Johnson, Edna Karr (7-of-11, 168 total yards, 3 TDs)
Johnson, who passed for 83 yards and two touchdowns, added 85 rushing yards and another TD to lead the Cougars to a 48-26 victory over John Curtis in a showdown between the two top-rated schools in the state on Friday at The Shrine on Airline.
 
Rod Parker, South Plaquemines (18-of-24, 208 yards, 4 TDs)
Parker passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Hurricanes scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to break open a tight game in a 41-26 win over Cohen on Saturday at Pan American Stadium.
 
Jake Randle, Newman (12-of-18, 439 total yards, 6 TDs)
Randle passed for 307 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 132 yards and two more scores to lead the Greenies to a 42-14 win over Country Day on Thursday at Michael Lupin Field.
 
Trent Helwig, Haynes (8-of-13, 297 total yards, 6 TDs)
Helwig, who passed for 132 yards and four touchdowns while running for 165 yards and two scores, also scored on a pair of two-point conversions to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 47-35 win over Patrick Taylor on Thursday night at Joe Yenni Stadium to clinch at least a share of the District 9-3A championship.
 
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 29 national champions, 110 Hall of Fame players, 55 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 91-year history. The 92nd Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Quarterfinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2026. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.5 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
