UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava Selected as Manning Award Quarterback of the Week

Sophomore Tallies Career-High Five TDs in Win Over Top 10 Opponent

Nico IamaleavaNEW ORLEANS (October 8, 2025) – Fans have selected UCLA's Nico Iamaleava as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earned the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's online fan voting contest.

Iamaleava passed for 166 yards and ran for a career-best 128, including three touchdowns, to lead the Bruins to a memorable 42-37 upset of No. 7 Penn State – it's the first victory for a winless school over a top 10 opponent in 40 years. Iamaleava, who matched the school record for quarterback rushing touchdowns, totaled 294 yards and five touchdowns on 17-of-24 passing with no interceptions, posting a 97.4 QBR.

The Long Beach, Calif., native was also named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. He has been impressive in the ground game as he owns all of the Bruins' four rushing touchdowns this season and has led the team in rushing yards in four of their first five contests (332 total rushing yards).

UCLA will head to Michigan State for a Big Ten matchup this Saturday at 11 a.m. CT, televised by BTN.

The other Manning Award Stars of the Week were Carson Beck (Miami), Walker Eget (San Jose State), Joe Fagnano (Connecticut), Blake Horvath (Navy), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Jalen Raynor (Arkansas State), and Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati).

In its first 21 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 15 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
