BYU’s Bear Bachmeier Selected as Manning Award Quarterback of the Week

Freshman Records Career Highs in Standout Performance

Bear BachmeierNEW ORLEANS (October 29, 2025) – Fans have selected BYU's Bear Bachmeier as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earned the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's online fan voting contest.

Bachmeier, a 6-2, 230-pound true freshman, completed 22-of-34 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns in No. 10 BYU's 41-27 Big 12 road win over Iowa State. He notched his second 300-yard passing game of the year while posting career bests for completions and attempts. He also had 12 carries for 49 yards and scored on a nine-yard run in the third quarter.

Through eight games, the Murrieta, Calif., native is the only FBS player who has recorded a passing and rushing touchdown in six different games. He's averaging 211.6 yards per game passing and is ranked second on the team in rushing with 94 carries for 408 yards and nine scores.

The Cougars have a bye this weekend and will then return to action on Nov. 8 at Texas Tech for an 11 A.M. Big 12 matchup.

The other Manning Award Stars of the Week were Kyron Drones (Virginia Tech), Mason Heintschel (Pittsburgh), Haynes King (Georgia Tech), Brendon Lewis (Memphis), Arch Manning (Texas), Drew Mestemaker (North Texas), and Marcel Reed (Texas A&M).

In its first 21 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 15 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
