NEW ORLEANS (October 1, 2025) – Fans have selected Notre Dame's CJ Carr as the
Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earned the honor over seven other Manning Award
Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's online fan voting contest.
Carr, who only played for three quarters, had the second-most TD passes in a half (four) in school history as he led the Fighting Irish to a 56-13 road win over Arkansas. The freshman completed 22-of-30 passes for a career-high 354 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Saline, Michigan, native's 354 passing yards on the day were the most by an Irish quarterback since 2022. Carr passed for 294 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. The 294 passing yards in the first half were the third-most in program history for the first half, and the most since 2008. His four first half passing touchdowns are tied for the second-most in Notre Dame history, just behind Ian Book's five against Bowling Green on October 5, 2019.
He leads all freshmen nationally in yards per attempt (10.49), yards per completion (15.37), passing efficiency (181.1), and passing yards per game (272.8). The Fighting Irish will host Boise State this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, televised by NBC.
The other Manning Award Stars of the Week were Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati), Dante Moore (Oregon), Luke Altmyer (Illinois), Ty Simpson (Alabama), Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), and Micah Alejado (Hawai'i).
In its first 21 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 15 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.
All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
