NEW ORLEANS (September 24, 2024) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's
Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 85 quarterbacks from 46 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 9/24/24:
Amyne Darensbourg, John F. Kennedy (441 total yards, 3 TDs)
Darensbourg capped a huge night by delivering an 86-yard completion with 1:30 remaining to set up the game-winning field as the Cougars upended St. Amant, 31-29, on the road on Thursday night.
Rida Ghazzali, Riverdale (19-of-27, 453 yards, 5 TDs)
Ghazzali turned in an impressive performance but it wasn't quite enough as Riverdale dropped a high-scoring 49-42 nondistrict decision to Pope John Paul II at Lester Latino Field on Friday.
John Johnson, Edna Karr (12-of-22, 241 yards, 5 TDs)
Johnson completed 8-of-15 passes for 194 yards in the first half as Karr jumped to a 34-0 halftime advantage as they rolled to a 47-0 victory over McDonogh 35 on Friday at Pan American Stadium.
Blaze Rodriguez, Pope John Paul II (7-of-11, 141 yards, 3 TDs)
Rodriguez connected on his third touchdown pass of the game with under a minute to go to lift the undefeated Jaguars to a 49-42 nondistrict victory over Riverdale at Lester Latino Field on Friday.

Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 29 national champions, 107 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 90-year history. The 91st Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Quarterfinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2025.
