The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and each will receive a first-round bye. The other eight teams will play in the first round with the higher seeds hosting the lower seeds either on campus or at other sites designated by the higher-seeded institution.

The 2024-25 postseason bracket will be released by the Selection Committee on Sunday, December 8 via a live ESPN broadcast.

"The expanded College Football Playoff is great news for the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, and Louisiana," said Jeff Hundley, the chief executive officer of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. "Simply put, this means the Allstate Sugar Bowl will carry national significance on an annual basis. And that should translate into a lot of positives for all involved."

Other activities during the week of the Allstate Sugar Bowl will include the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year's Eve Parade presented by Louisiana Tourism and the NewOrleans.com Allstate Sugar Bowl Tailgate Town. The New Year's Eve Parade is a Mardi Gras-style parade with floats, bands and other participants that is sure to entertain fans of all ages on the afternoon of December 31 in the French Quarter. Located in Champions Square on the campus of the legendary Superdome, Tailgate Town is the official pregame festival of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The bands and cheerleaders of the participating schools are scheduled to make appearances at both events.
