Four Nola Area QBs Spotlighted by the Sugar Bowl

Manning Futures 2024 - Week Four

NEW ORLEANS (October 1, 2024) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 89 quarterbacks from 47 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 10/1/24:

Vashaun Coulon, St. Augustine (19-of-23, 282 yards, 4 TDs)
Coulon found three different receivers with his four touchdown passes, including an 82-yard catch-and-run delivery that broke the game open in the third quarter, as the Purple Knights took down Warren Easton, 42-19, in the District 9-5A opener Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Caden Heck, Covington (20-of-27, 235 yards, 2 TDs)
Despite the Covington attack being ground-based entering Friday's game, the Lions went to the air in a 28-0 victory over Northshore as Heck was exceptional with TD passes of 37 and 27 yards at Jack Salter Stadium.

Gemar Hodges, Kenner Discovery (9-of-15, 241 total yards, 4 TDs)
Hodges passed for 147 yards and a touchdown and ran for 94 yards and three more scores, including a key 2-yard run with 1:53 remaining, to lead Kenner Discovery to a 32-24 win over Patrick Taylor on Thursday night at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.

Markel Keyes, Salmen (13-of-22, 179 yards, 2 TDs)
After Salmen fell behind for the first time with 2:34 to go, Keyes led an 8-play, 67-yard drive capped by a tough 5-yard touchdown run with 32.9 seconds remaining to lift Salmen to a 34-28 nondistrict road win over Liberty on Friday night at Olympia Stadium.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 29 national champions, 107 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 90-year history.
