NEW ORLEANS (September 6, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 9/5/23:
Ethan Couvillon, Chalmette (13-of-19, 198 yards, 2 TDs)
Couvillion had a big day for a Chalmette offense which usually keeps the ball on the ground – the senior's 198 passing yards rank among the 10 highest in program history – as the Owls defeated Hannan, 40-13, in the season opener at Bobby Nuss Stadium.
Greg Donaldson, Warren Easton (10-of-22, 210 total yards, 3 total TDs)
Donaldson threw TD passes of 7 yards and 83 yards and then ran for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter as Warren Easton took down Division I state runner-up Ruston, 20-19, on the road.
Raphael Reed, Frederick Douglass (17-of-26, 352 total yards, 5 TDs)
Reed, who passed for three TDS and ran for two more, led Frederick Douglass to a 34-16 victory on the road at Tara.
Lorenzo Zeno, East St. John (45-of-58, 341 total yards, 6 TDs)
After falling behind 20-0, Zeno led East St. John to an impressive comeback with his sixth score of the game coming on an overtime run to lift the Wildcats to a 41-40 win over St. James.
