NEW ORLEANS (November 7, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's
Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 78 quarterbacks from 43 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/7/23:
Dagan Bruno, John Curtis (9-of-11, 221 total yards, 3 TDs)
Bruno turned in an outstanding performance for the Patriots as he tossed three TD passes, including a 21-yard delivery on fourth down to make it a 14-0 game, as John Curtis topped undefeated Edna Karr, 41-7, at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.
Mason Wilson, Archbishop Shaw (4-of-11, 338 total yards, 5 TDs)
Wilson connected on long passes while also running for 188 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles turned in an explosive offensive performance in a wild 57-50 win over 8-1 Carencro on Friday night.
Jacob Guichet, Willow School (10-of-22, 198 total yards, 3 TDs)
Guichet throws and runs for first-quarter touchdowns, then adds another TD pass before leading the Lions on a final drive to set up the game-winning field goal with four seconds remaining in a 24-21 win over East Jefferson at Brees Family Field on Friday.
Blaze Rodriguez, Pope John Paul II (1-of-1, 176 total yards, 3 TDs)
Rodriguez rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns (on just eight carries) and threw a 61-yard completion while also recording four tackles on defense in a 53-34 win over St. Helena on Friday at Lester Latino Field as Pope John Paul II wrapped up an undefeated District 7-2A title.
The
Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 103 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
