MANDEVILLE (November 4, 2023) – Jesuit High School won its 12th straight boys' championship at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Metro Swimming Championships held on Friday and Saturday at Franco's Athletic Club. Dominican earned the title in the girls' division, its third straight metro championship.

One individual meet record was broken as Jesuit junior Enzo Solitario posted a time of 46.17 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle to break the previous record of 46.66 set by Alton Smith in 2002. Smith, who also swam at Jesuit, went on to swim collegiately at Southern Cal. Solitario also won the 50 freestyle and was named the Boys' Outstanding Swimmer of the meet.

Two relay records were also set as Dominican broke the previous bests in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Both previous records were also set by Dominican – the 200 medley in 2022 and the 200 freestyle in 2001. Freshman Kendall Jollands swam on both relay teams and also won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke to earn the Girls' Outstanding Swimmer honor.

Jesuit also had an individual winner in senior Jack Primeaux who won the 100 backstroke and Dominican junior Haley Valdine won the 200 individual medley. Additional two-event winners were Mandeville junior Kayden Hedrick in the boys 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Willow senior Izzy Mundee in the girls 200 and 500 freestyle.

Jesuit finished the meet with 359 points, 37 less than it posted in last year's dominant victory. While the championship was the Blue Jays' 12th straight in the Allstate Sugar Bowl-sponsored event, they have actually captured metro championships for 40 straight competitions (there was no championship in 2020 due to COVID-19). E.D. White was second with 236 points and St. Paul's took third with 230 points. Lakeshore (169) and Northshore (166) rounded out the top five.

For the girls, Dominican posted 444.5 points while Mount Carmel was second with 234 points. St. Scholastica (230), Mandeville (163) and Northshore (161) rounded out the top five.

The Sugar Bowl Metro High School Championship is the premier swimming event for high school athletes in the metropolitan area. The popularity and significance of the event exceeds that of the city and state championship meets as it includes the schools of all five classes of LHSAA, including Catholic, public and private schools – ensuring that the best swimmers compete against each other, regardless of classification. The meet includes schools not only from New Orleans but also from the Northshore and other metropolitan areas.

The event featured a total of 40 teams (boys and girls) and almost 350 individual swimmers participating.

The mission of the Allstate Sugar Bowl is to sponsor and promote amateur sporting events which will foster revenue and spark economic growth in the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Through its year-round slate of events, the organization has generated nearly $2.4 billion of economic impact for the city and the state in the last decade alone.
