NEW ORLEANS (November 28, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's
Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 81 quarterbacks from 44 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/28/23:
Generald Buggage, Archbishop Rummel (12-of-15, 237 total yards, 2 TDs)
Buggage, who passed for 164 yards and a TD and ran for 73 yards and another score, helped the road warrior and 18th-seeded Raiders post their third-straight playoff win away from home, 35-21, over No. 7 St. Paul's in the LHSAA Division I select playoffs on Friday night at Hunter Stadium.
Dagan Bruno, John Curtis (9-of-9, 187 total yards, 3 TDs)
Bruno had an excellent performance for the sixth-seeded Patriots, but it wasn't enough as they couldn't upset No. 3 Catholic, falling 31-28 on Friday night in Baton Rouge in the Division I select quarterfinals.
John Johnson, Edna Karr (16-of-21, 365 total yards, 3 TDs)
Johnson, who threw for 307 yards and ran for 58, helped the fifth-seeded Cougars score three straight touchdowns to build a 40-20 lead and they held on to take down No. 13 Alexandria, 40-34, in the LHSAA Division I select quarterfinals on Friday night at Morris F.X. Jeff Stadium.
Brady St. Pierre, St. Charles Catholic (8-of-13, 96 yards, 3 TDs)
St. Pierre connected on three first-quarter touchdown passes as the top-seed and defending state champion Comets held off No. 9 Notre Dame for a 31-21 win in a Division III select quarterfinal game in LaPlace on Friday night.

Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 103 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
