NEW ORLEANS (November 14, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's
Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 79 quarterbacks from 44 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/14/23:
Ethan Couvillon, Chalmette (23-of-39, 353 total yards, 4 TDs)
Couvillon rallied the Owls from a 14-point third-quarter deficit, running for the nine-yard winning touchdown to lift No. 10 Chalmette to a 35-28 win over Ponchatoula in the Division I nonselect playoffs.
Dawson Simmons, St. Augustine (153 yards, 3 TDs)
Simmons connected on a 32-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-and-7 early in the second quarter and then added a 65-yard TD hook-up later in the quarter as the No. 22 Purple Knights rolled to a 43-6 road victory at No. 11 McKinley in a first round Division I select playoff game.
Ethan Tran, Patrick Taylor (4-of-5, 214 total yards, 3 TDs)
Tran led Patrick Taylor all the way back from a 42-20 halftime deficit when he tossed a six-yard touchdown pass with 1:38 to go as the No. 13 Tigers shocked No. 20 Sophie B. Wright, 52-42, in a Division III select playoff game on Friday.
Evan Arceneaux, De La Salle (10-of-12, 157 total yards, 2 TDs)
Arceneaux converted a key fourth-down pass on the Cavaliers' second possession to set up their first touchdown and then connected on a 17-yard TD pass and a 63-yard screen pass TD as No. 15 De La Salle took down No. 18 Buckeye, 42-0, in a Division II selected playoff game at Tad Gormley Stadium on Friday.

Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 103 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
