Allstate Sugar Bowl Announces Manning Award Futures for Week Five

Four Nola Area QBs Spotlighted by the Sugar Bowl

NEW ORLEANS (October 10, 2023) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week's Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. The recognition is entitled "Futures" as these high school stars are potential future candidates for the Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis. It was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
 
The Sugar Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 71 quarterbacks from 39 different high schools since the honor's inception in 2020.
 
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 10/10/23:
 
Cole Canatella, Holy Cross (11-of-19, 251 yards, 6 TDs)
Canatella connected on touchdown passes on six of his 11 completions as the Tigers rolled to a 55-30 District 9-5A win over St. Aug on Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
 
Darnell O'Quinn, John Ehret (8-of-16, 327 total yards, 4 TDs)
O'Quinn passed for 193 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 134 yards and two scores to leads the Patriots to a 36-0 non-district win over Higgins.
 
Santana Price, McDonogh 35 (9-of-12, 193 yards, 3 total TDs)
Price, who opened the game with a 21-yard run, scored the first touchdown on a 16-yard run, connected on a 75-yard catch-and-run TD delivery, and then scored on a QB sneak to key the Roneagles' 31-0 District 11-4A victory over Abramson on Thursday at Pan-American Stadium.
 
Joseph Riley IV, M.L. King Charter (4 TDs)
Riley connected on TD passes of 50, 47, 32, and 28 yards to lead the Jaguars to a 42-20 victory over Tara on Friday night at Belaire High School.
 
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 103 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
