Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. Fans now have the opportunity to go to Twitter (

The
Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/15/22:
Casey Avrard, Archbishop Rummel (5-of-8, 156 total yards, 3 TDs)
Avrard did most of his damage on the ground, running 15 times for 121 yards and all three of his touchdowns, including the game-winning 38-yard dash with 1:49 remaining, as the 15th-seeded Raiders took down No. 18 John Ehret, 31-24, in a Division I select playoff contest.
Warren Mayes, Helen Cox (9-of-15, 269 yards, 3 TDs)
Mayes connected on big TD plays of 60, 69 and 84 yards as he sparked the 16th-seeded Cougars to a 24-21 win over No. 17 St. Michael in a Division II select playoff game.
Yashua Mitchell, East St. John (23-of-34, 392 yards, 4 TDs)
Mitchell connected on TD passes of 34, 28 and 46 yards in the first half and then delivered a 9-yard TD pass with 47.6 seconds remaining to lift 11th-seeded East. St. John to a thrilling 29-28 victory over No. 22 Walker in a Division I non-select playoff game.
Jadan Verrett, George Washington Carver (15-of-25, 153 yards, 2 TDs)
Verrett connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds to go, his second TD delivery of the fourth quarter, to lift the Rams to a 15-8 Division II select playoff victory over Booker T. Washington.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 100 Hall of Fame players, 51 Hall of Fame coaches and 20 Heisman Trophy winners in its 88-year history. The 89th annual Sugar Bowl Classic is scheduled to be played on Saturday, December 31, 2022. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.2 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
