Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country

The Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsors a pair of cross country invitationals. It took on sponsorship of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival, hosted by Loyola University, in the fall of 2015. The Sugar Bowl also began sponsoring the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic in 2017 – that event replaced the Metro Cross Country Championships (held from 2014-16, see below). The Bowl has also sponsored the Louisiana All-State Teams for cross country since 2008.


Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival

The 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 14 at New Orleans City Park.

William Carey College swept the collegiate division of the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival on Saturday, September 15 at New Orleans City Park. The event, which featured over 800 runners, also included races at the high school varsity and junior varsity levels as well as a middle-school run.

At the high school level, Ocean Springs (Miss.) High School was the dominant school, capturing titles at both the boys’ and girls’ level for the varsity and junior varsity races.

Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic

The second annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic presented by Varsity Sports took place on Saturday, October 13 in New Orleans City Park. This event featured over 1,000 runners competing at the high school varsity, junior high and elementary levels. Contact Meet Director Mike Corn for additional information.

Vestavia Hills from Alabama won the boys’ varsity title while Vandebilt Catholic (Houma, La.) won the girls’ varsity championship. Brother Martin senior Hunter Appleton defended his title in the boys’ varsity race with a time of 14:52.61 while Sacred Heart’s Mary Nusloch was the girls’ varsity winner with a time of 17:48.09 over the three-mile course.

Brother Martin won the boys’ junior high division and Colin Volpe from Holy Cross was the individual winner with a time of 11:15.31 on the two-mile course. In the girl’s junior high division, Ocean Springs (Miss.) won the team title while Lusher Charter’s Sirena N’Mili was the individual winner with a time of 13:02.89 on the two-mile course.

In the boys’ elementary division, individual winner Michael Vocke (8:04.32, 1.5 miles) led Christian Brothers to the team title. St. Dominic was the girls’ elementary champion while Virginia Turner from St. Pius X School was the individual champion (9:41.22, 1.5 miles).

The Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic replaced the Metro Cross Country Championships (held from 2014-16, see below).

Metro Cross Country Championships

The Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored a Metro Cross Country Championship for the New Orleans area from 2014-16. Dominican won all three of the girls’ championships during that stretch, while the boys’ titles were captured by John Curtis, Brother Martin and St. Paul’s.


Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country All-Louisiana Teams

In addition to sponsoring the Track & Field Classic, the Allstate Sugar Bowl also sponsors the Louisiana Cross Country All-Louisiana Teams as recognized by the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association. The teams is based on the top 25 performances, regardless of classification, at the LHSAA State Cross Country Championship Meet.
