Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country
The Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsors a pair of cross country invitationals. It took on sponsorship of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival, hosted by Loyola University, in the fall of 2015. The Sugar Bowl also began sponsoring the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic in 2017 – that event replaced the Metro Cross Country Championships (held from 2014-16, see below). The Bowl has also sponsored the Louisiana All-State Teams for cross country since 2008.
Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic
The third annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic presented by Varsity Sports was run on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in New Orleans City Park. The event featured nearly 1,000 runners competing at the high school varsity, sub-varsity and freshmen levels. Contact Meet Director Mike Corn for additional information.
St. Paul’s and Vandebilt Catholic won the boys and girls championships, respectively, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic on Saturday at City Park. Louden Boudreaux from Belle Chasse High was the boys individual champion and Mount Carmel’s Hope Shales was the girls’ winner.
In the girls’ three-mile race, Vandebilt Catholic placed five runners in the top 24 to finish with 82 points, holding off Mandeville (86 points). Mount Carmel (90 points) was third while Fontainebleau (103) and Dominican (150) rounded out the top five.
Shales posted a time of 18:31.44 to win the race, while Vandebilt’s Brynn Kelso was second at 18:41.47 and Brooke Naccari from St. Scholastica took third at 18:52.25.
Brother Martin won the boys’ sub-varsity race while Robert Smith from St. Paul’s was the individual winner. Dominican was the sub-varsity girls’ winner and the sub-varsity girl’s individual champ was Mount Carmel’s Sammi Rogers.
St. Paul’s was paced by individual winner Riley Hidalgo to take the boys’ freshman team title. Ella Showalter was the winner in the girls’ freshman race which did not have any full exams competing.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic replaced the Metro Cross Country Championships (held from 2014-16, see below).

Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival
The 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival was held Saturday, September 14 at New Orleans City Park. The Cross Country Festival featured men’s and women’s races at the collegiate level, as well as boys’ and girls’ high school varsity and middle school events.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival races started and finished on the City Park Cross Country Course located near the intersections of Diagonal Drive and Harrison Avenue.

7:45 a.m. – Collegiate Men (3 miles)
8:30 a.m. – Collegiate Women (3 miles)
9:15 a.m. – HS Varsity Boys (3 miles)
9:30 a.m. – College Awards Ceremony
9:45 a.m. – HS Varsity Girls (3 miles)
10:15 a.m. – Middle School Boys and Girls (1.5 mile)
10:45 a.m. – HS/Middle School Awards Ceremony
The University of New Orleans swept the team and individual titles at the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival. Vandebilt Catholic was dominant in the girls’ high school race. The Houma, La., high school had the top seven finishers to tally a perfect score of 15 points. In the boys’ high school race, John Curtis had the top three finishers; however, those were the only runners for the Patriots, which allowed for Archbishop Shaw (30 points) to capture the team title.

Metro Cross Country Championships
The Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored a Metro Cross Country Championship for the New Orleans area from 2014-16. Dominican won all three of the girls’ championships during that stretch, while the boys’ titles were captured by John Curtis, Brother Martin and St. Paul’s.

Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country All-Louisiana Teams
In addition to sponsoring the Track & Field Classic, the Allstate Sugar Bowl also sponsors the Louisiana Cross Country All-Louisiana Teams as recognized by the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association. The teams is based on the top 25 performances, regardless of classification, at the LHSAA State Cross Country Championship Meet.
