Marty Wetzel - November 1979 Athlete of the Month

Wetzel, a star linebacker for the Tulane football team, was selected as the co-winner of the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for November of 1979. Wetzel, the defensive captain of the 9-2 Green Wave that meets Penn State in the Liberty Bowl on Saturday, was cited for his exceptional performance in Tulane's 24-14 victory over LSU.
He shared the honor with St. Augustine quarterback Darren Dixon, The captain of the Purple Knights' state champion football team, Dixon was cited for his performance in St. Aug's 24-7 victory over previously unbeaten Jesuit.
