Hankton, a track standout at De La Salle, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for April of 1989. Hankton was unbeaten in April in the long jump (24 feet, one inch), high jump (6-9), and triple jump (47-3 1/2) while leading the Cavaliers to their first District 11-AAAA title.
