Wilbur Holland - March 1975 Athlete of the Month

Holland, a star guard for the UNO basketball team, was selected as the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for March of 1975. Holland was chosen for his performance during UNO's drive through the NCAA Division II basketball regionals and a second-place finish in the national tournament. The 6-2 guard averaged 25 points and five rebounds per game during the five games, including the last six points in UNO's two-point win over Lincoln in the regional championship game. In the national tourney, Holland scored 20 points against Riverside, 22 against Assumption, and a game-high 28 in the championship battle against Old Dominion. Holland also had a team-high eight rebounds against Assumption. During the five-game span, he hit 52 percent of his field-goal attempts (53-of-104) and 95 percent of his free throws (19-of-20). It is the fourth time in the past 15 months that Holland has won the monthly honor - he has won three of the last four months.
