Tappin, a 17-year old junior from St. Martin's, was named the Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for March of 1992. Tappin finished third in the women's 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indiana and in the process qualified for the 1992 Olympic Team.
