Terry Robiskie - Corbett Award, 1976

LSU Football

Terry Robiskie, LSU’s all-time rushing and scoring leader, was named winner of the James J. Corbett Memorial Award as the year’s outstanding college athlete for 1976.

James J. Corbett Awards

The 6-2, 125-pound tailback lettered four years for Coach Charles McClendon’s Fighting Tigers and his 214 yards on the ground against Rice last fall is the most by a Tiger in a single game.

Robiskie, who hails from Lucy, La., was probably the most heavily recruited high school football product in Louisiana since Billy Cannon and his collegiate performance justified his prep potential.

During his LSU career, Robiskie was named the UPI Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week and AP co-Back of the Week for the Southeast United States along with teammate Charles Alexander for their performances against Ole Miss.

In addition to setting LSU records in rushing yards, rushing attempts and scoring, he became the leading player other than a quarterback to break into the top five in total offense for a career with the Tigers.

Robiskie was presented the Corbett Award at a reception in his honor earlier this year at the International Hotel. The award was given by past president Charles C. Zatarain of the Sugar Bowl, who serves as chairman of the selection committee.
