Ryan Eades, a sophomore pitcher for LSU and a native of Slidell, La., has been named the New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for June. The right-hander was recognized after an outstanding month pitching for the Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer Baseball League. He was selected in balloting by the New Orleans Sports Awards Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

The young standout did not allow a run in the month of June, allowing just two hits with one walk. For the season, he posted a sizzling 0.84 earned-run average with a perfect 3-0 record as he was honored with the B.F.C. Whitehouse Award as the top pitcher in the Cape Cod League. In addition to being one of the starting pitchers in the Cape Cod League All-Star game played at Fenway Park, he was named to Perfect Game Baseball's summer collegiate All-America team.
"You're playing with and against guys from all over the country," Eades told the St. Tammany News. "It's one of the historic leagues. There are guys starring in the majors who played in this league. It was a real good experience for me."
Eades saw limited action for LSU last spring, as he was eased into action after a torn labrum that caused the Northshore graduate to miss his senior season. As a freshman, he was 4-1 with a 4.81 ERA in 18 appearances.
The New Orleans Sports Awards Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
