Rypien, a product of Spokane, Wash., completed 24-of-29 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos’ 24-17 victory over No. 23 Fresno State in Mountain West action on Friday night. Boise trailed the Bulldogs 17-3 midway through the third quarter, but then Rypien keyed three unanswered touchdown drives. The final score came on a 49-yard connection with Khalil Shakir with 9:22 to go in the game.

In addition, Rypien broke the Mountain West record for career passing yards and receptions in the victory. He now has 12,924 yards and 981 completions topping the marks set by San Diego State’s Ryan Lindley (12,690 yards and 961 completions). His passing yardage total is also the most among all current FBS players.

Boise State’s win lifted it into the latest College Football Playoff Rankings as it now stands at No. 23. The Broncos look to remain in the hunt for a Mountain West divisional championship when they play at New Mexico this Friday in an 8 p.m. (Central) contest on the CBS Sports Network.

Rypien’s top competitors were Ty Gangi of Nevada and UL Monroe’s Caleb Evans. Gangi completes 28-of-35 passes for a season-high 404 yards and four touchdowns as he directed the Wolf Pack to bowl eligibility with a 49-10 MW victory over Colorado State. Evans completed 27-of-32 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 54 yards and a pair of scores as he led the Warhawks to a 38-10 Sun Belt road win over South Alabama.

Manning Award Image smallIn its first 14 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 12 different schools and from four different conferences. The Big 12 Conference (Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) joins the Southeastern Conference (Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) with four Manning Award winners each, while Texas is the only school with two different winners (McCoy and Young).

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
