NEW ORLEANS (June 1, 2026) – The Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic will be played on Friday, January 15, 2027 – this will be the latest the Sugar Bowl has been played in its 93-year history as it will serve as a CFP Semifinal. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. Central kickoff and it will be televised on ABC and ESPN. It will be the first Sugar Bowl aired on broadcast TV since 2010.
"The Sugar Bowl Committee is proud to host a CFP Semifinal game this year, our first semifinal since the onset of the 12-team playoff," said Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley. "As postseason college football evolves, this year's game will have us playing deeper into January than ever before. While this represents a change from tradition, it more importantly represents another opportunity for Louisiana and the Allstate Sugar Bowl to host two of the very best teams in the country with a trip to the CFP National Championship on the line.

The 93rd annual Allstate Sugar Bowl will be the seventh Sugar Bowl to double as a CFP game. The Bowl has four previous CFP Semifinals as well as a pair of CFP Quarterfinals, including last year's thrilling victory for Ole Miss. The first six CFP games at the Allstate Sugar Bowl combined for over 122 million television viewers and brought an economic impact of over $1 billion to the region.
The field of 12 teams for the College Football Playoff will be comprised of the Autonomy 4 conference champions (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC) as well as the highest ranked team from the Group of 6 conferences (American, CUSA, MAC, Mountain West, Pac-12, Sun Belt), plus the seven highest-ranked at-large teams (Notre Dame is guaranteed a position if it is ranked in the top 12) in the final CFP Selection Committee rankings. The top four seeds will receive a first-round bye. The other eight teams will play in the first round (one game on Dec. 18 and three on Dec. 19) with the higher seeds hosting the lower seeds on campus.
The 2026-27 College Football Playoff will begin with a primetime CFP First Round game on Friday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. First round action will continue Saturday, Dec. 19, as ABC and ESPN broadcast the first game of a daylong tripleheader at noon, while TNT will present games at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively. All games on ESPN networks will be available on the ESPN App, while the first-round games airing on TNT and truTV will also be streamed on HBO Max. Each of the four CFP First-Round games will be played on campus sites to be announced on Selection Day, Sunday, Dec. 6.
The quartet of CFP Quarterfinals are set for Wednesday, Dec. 30 and Friday, Jan. 1, with games split across ESPN and TNT Sports, and taking place at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and Rose Bowl Game Presented by Prudential. ESPN will broadcast CFP Quarterfinals on Friday, Jan. 1 at 4 p.m. (ABC & ESPN) and 8 p.m. (ESPN). TNT Sports will broadcast CFP Quarterfinals on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 1 at noon. Thursday, Jan. 14 marks TNT Sports' inaugural CFP Semifinal as part of the agreement between ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) as two teams face off at the Capital One Orange Bowl. The CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl will be ESPN's first semifinal on ABC (also simulcast on ESPN), with the matchup set for Friday, Jan. 15. The 2027 CFP National Championship Presented by AT&T will air across ESPN networks, including ABC, on Monday, Jan. 25, 2027, from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.

About the College Football Playoff
The College Football Playoff (CFP) is the competition that crowns the true national champion in college football. The format of the CFP is built on a 12-team bracket. The 12 participating schools are the conference champions from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Southeastern Conference and the highest-ranked team from the American, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West, Pac-12 Conference and Sun Belt Conference, along with the next seven highest-ranked teams.
