NEW ORLEANS (September 4, 2025) – Fans have selected Joey Aguliar of Tennessee as the
Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. He earned the honor over seven other Manning Award
Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl's online fan voting contest.
Aguilar, a senior from Antioch, Calif., made his Tennessee debut in a 45-26 win over Syracuse on Saturday. He was 16-of-28 for 247 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 34 rushing yards to finish with 281 yards of total offense. Aguilar has now thrown for over 200 yards in all 25 FBS starts of his career (including his time at App State) and is the FBS active career leader in total offense per game (288.2).
Aguilar fired the longest play in the SEC for the opening weekend when he connected for a 73-yard pass to Braylon Staley in the second quarter. The completion was also the third longest of Aguilar's career after connecting on passes of 83 yards and 77 yards during his time with App State.
Tennessee will host East Tennessee State at Neyland Stadium this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
The other Manning Award Stars of the Week were Marcel Reed (Texas A&M), AJ Swann (App State), Tommy Castellanos (FSU), Jake Retzlaff (Tulane), Evan Simon (Temple), Haynes King (Georgia Tech), and Devon Dampier (Utah).
In its first 21 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 15 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Jayden Daniels, Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with nine Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have each had five winners.
All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
