NEW ORLEANS (February 9, 2019) – Nicholls State turned in a pair of outstanding performances to sweep UNO in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader that capped the weekend of activities for the Privateers’ 2019 Homecoming Weekend sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

In the men’s game, local product Scott Plaisance posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead UNO, but Nicholls foiled the Privateers’ hopes for a key victory as Danny Garrick buried a three-pointer with 4.2 seconds to go to give the Colonels a 64-63 victory. UNO also had solid performances from Gerrale Gates (15 points, eight rebounds, two assists) and Ezekiel Charles (14 points, eight rebounds).
Junior Rehema Franklin, a New Orleans native, tallied a career-high 13 points in the women’s game, but once again, UNO couldn’t pull out a victory as Nicholls pulled away for a 76-62 victory. Shania Woods added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Privateers. The Colonels were led by Cassidy Barrios, last year’s Southland Conference Player of the Year, who scored 15 points and snagged 16 rebounds.
This was the fifth year that the Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored the UNO Homecoming weekend. The Bowl will also sponsor another UNO event – the Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic – February 22-24 at Maestri Field.
