UNO Celebrates Homecoming With Sweep of Nicholls State

NEW ORLEANS (February 4, 2017) – The University of New Orleans celebrated its Home on the Lakefront Homecoming, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, by sweeping a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader against Nicholls State on Saturday at Lakefront Arena.

In the men’s game, Erik Thomas scored 26 points to go with 12 rebounds as the Privateers defeated the Colonels, 78-69. Tevin Boyles added 12 points while Christavious Gill and Nate Frye each chipped in with 10 as UNO pulled away a game that was tied at 39 early in the second half.

“It was a good Homecoming night and a great game,” said UNO men’s coach Mark Slessinger. “Our women pulled off an incredible game as well, so it was double wins for everybody. It was a good night.”

Five different Privateers reached double figures for the UNO women as they topped the Colonels, 81-77. Randi Brown led the way with 23 points, including seven free throws in the final 39 seconds to ice the victory. Shania Woods added 13 points and seven rebounds.
