UNO Basketball Teams Split Allstate Sugar Bowl Alumni Day Contests
NEW ORLEANS (January 25, 2020) – The University of New Orleans split its men’s and women’s basketball games at the annual Alumni Day presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Saturday.
The UNO women used a second-half rally to pull away from Nicholls State in a 77-63 victory. Rehema Franklin anchored the Privateer attack with a 23-point performance while Dionjhae Thomas tallied 12 points and six rebounds to lead 10 players who scored in the game. The Colonels held a 17-16 lead after one quarter, but UNO took charge in the second quarter to pick up the Southland Conference victory.
On the men’s side, Troy Green (21 points), Bryson Robinson (16) and Jahmel Myers (11) all reached double figures in scoring, but it wasn’t enough for UNO as Nicholls State pulled away for a 77-72 victory.
While this was the first year the Allstate Sugar Bowl sponsored the Alumni Day activities, it was the sixth year that the Allstate Sugar Bowl has sponsored a UNO Basketball weekend. The Bowl will also sponsor another UNO event – the Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic – February 28-March 1 at Maestri Field.
