Tulane Sweeps Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival
Green Wave Runners Earn Men’s and Women’s Titles
METAIRIE, La. (September 9, 2017) – Tulane swept the men’s and women’s races at the third annual Allstate Sugar Bowl cross Country Festival held on Saturday morning at Lafreniere Park. The Green Wave posted six of the top 10 finishers on the men’s side while it’s women’s team dominated with five of the top six runners.
In addition to the collegiate races, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival featured divisions for high school varsity, high school junior varsity and middle schoolers. Over 500 runners competed in the event.
Tulane’s men tallied 18 points, followed by event host Loyola with 30 points. Spring Hill (34 points) was third while UNO (54) and Southern (75) rounded out the top five. On the women’s side, Tulane finished with 20 points, followed by Spring Hill (23), Xavier (39) and Mississippi Valley State (51). Jackson State and Tougaloo tied for fifth with 74 points each.
The top male finisher was Tulane’s Moses Aloiloi, who covered the five-kilometer course in 16:05.1. Mississippi Valley’s Scolasticah Kemei won the women’s 5K with a time of 18:48.7.

Lusher Charter won the girls’ varsity division, followed by Barbe and Fontainebleau. Fontainebleau captured the boys’ varsity title, followed by Lakeshore and Lusher. Individual medalists at the varsity level were Ciara Gilroy from Barbe (20:57.0) and Brian Bartee (18:31.7) from Lakeshore.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 27 national champions, 92 Hall of Fame players, 48 Hall of Fame coaches and 17 Heisman Trophy winners in its 83-year history.
