Allstate Sugar Bowl Match-up to be Announced at 2 p.m. Sunday
NEW ORLEANS (December 1, 2018) – The match-up for the 85th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl (Tuesday, January 1, 2019) will be announced on Sunday by ESPN on its 2 p.m. (CT) New Year’s Six broadcast. A limited number of Allstate Sugar Bowl tickets are available by visiting www.Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl is contracted to match-up the champions from the SEC and the Big 12 unless either of both of those champions are selected for the College Football Playoff. If the SEC Champion is selected for the Playoff, then the highest-ranked (CFP Rankings) available team from the SEC will be assigned to the Allstate Sugar Bowl. If the Big 12 Champion is selected for the Playoff, then the conference runner-up will be assigned to the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
ESPN will air its College Football Playoff Selection Show starting at 11 a.m. (CT) Sunday. The College Football Playoff Semifinal match-ups are expected to be announced in the first hour of the show while the rest of the New Year’s Six pairings will be announced after 2 p.m.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host the Big 12 and the SEC six times in the next eight years. The other two seasons (2020 and 2023), the Allstate Sugar Bowl will serve as a College Football Playoff Semifinal.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 93 Hall of Fame players, 49 Hall of Fame coaches and 18 Heisman Trophy winners in its 84-year history. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1.6 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors nearly 100,000 student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.5 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
